Wooooahh! :lego_laugh: Almost 250K mails send the past month for #Mastodon :mastodon: :amaze: Confirm mails, email notifications etc I've never had a month where the bills for mails was €207 :angry_laugh: Often it's within the 10K free limit lol

@stux My first thought was immediately; why pay for mail at all? Just run your own mailserver! It's a basic internet functionality.

@proycon I've been trying to setup a mailserver for years, but doing it properly takes quite some time (and then afterwards too, because random big companies can blacklist for no reason).What do you think, has it changed in the recent years? Is there an simple to maintain tool(set) that makes this easy?

@stux AWS Simple Email Service will let you send up to 50k emails per day. Pretty sure they will approve your request for production access. https://aws.amazon.com/ses/

@nekomata I've been running mine for well over a decade (postfix + dovecot). It takes a bit of effort at first. But after that should be fairly smooth sailing (assuming you are in some sane static IP range). Some recipients are indeed a bit overly eager to block if, it might help to relay via your ISPs mail server in such cases (and setting proper SPF records).
