@yetzt While I somewhat appreciate this as there are a lot of domains that are easy and clear blocks in there, I do have to mention that this is to some extent also a harassment list.No, I'm not calling it harassment to put nazi or hateful instances on there. But when you're doing a data-driven approach to this without manual review, it's prone to bias. And with such a huge list, even if you recommend to not auto-import it, you can't really expect that to not happen either.For instance, diqordia.space has 24 total blocks. But they're an instance with a lot of queer and neurodiverse people and it has been around for long afaik, so it's not strange that you'll find them blocked by many. I also know that they've been unfairly blocked by several instances because of auto-imports where the sources were some really sketchy ones. So this is where I call it harassment. Because it's not fair to group them in among all the nazi and hateful instances. And this is just one I recognised. There may very well be many more in there that I didn't recognise.Huge blocklists like this can be helpful, yes, but you need to at the very least include why these have been blocked. And even then, you are actually encouraging mindless blocking by compiling this list. People will not manually check all of these.

@Reina or dead instances (some on there have been gone a long time; this should tell you how much care people put in to these things), and even listing a reason doesn't mean much of anything. blob is listed as a "white nationalist terrorist organization" without receipts and our worst offense is we sometimes disagree with lefties :blobcatdunno:

It's clearly just a virtue signalling thing, with no serious effort put into it. They don't care about the damage they're causing, they just want you to fall in line.

@yetzt i really hope people dont use this without thinking critically about each instance first. there are many good instance on this including the one im currently using.it can be a good start but it might just double down on overblocking decisions. one reason to block this instance was literally "weird german name, must be nazi"

@dangerdyke @arachnomyrmex i feel i have failed to get this across: this is not a list of which instance i think should be blocked. this is a list of the most blocked instances.it's possibly a useful starting point to find instances deserving defederation, nothing more is implied.

@yetzt @dangerdyke @arachnomyrmex no one is going to take it like this. large instances worried about legality and smaller new instances are just going to take it exactly as a shortcut to avoiding problems, and thus cut off anyone in them or anyone new joining from speaking to a gigantic chunk of the network. you agreggating this data isn't an act devoid of implications
