@nerdtronics if you wanted to use sxmo, the edge branch is ironically more stable than stable. Phosh is good too. The alarm clock actually wakes the device up, so that's neat.

@elagost I just got done using sxmo-sway on Arch Linux ARM for the past six months. I'm good lol. I like it for computer usage, but it's too problematic for cell phone usage. Like the software can't handle multiple incoming texts and calls, if people are blowing up your phone it doesn't handle it well. Also the unlock is so slow, if some is calling the phone out of suspend mode, by time you unlock and answer it's already going to voicemail. And writing my texts in vim with a touchscreen keyboard got old.Plus the upgrade process is downright stupid. sxmo has like 20 configs and they all have to be overwritten when it updates. So you have to manually merge any changes (and you need to make a bunch of changes for it to be barely usable). Not only that, the Pinephone is a fagile little device, so a hard case or soft TPU protective case is a must, but the cases interfere with the button interface of sxmo 😩

@nerdtronics I also use postmarketOS too on my PinePhone 1.2a. It's been a while though...

@nerdtronics Yeah, I get you. I've used it quite a bit too, and brought it up since you were posting about it earlier, but I agree, SXMO is just a bit too hard core after a while. Some minor things don't work, and stable isn't really stable, but edge breaks audio too often, etc... I love it but it's hard to love. You enjoyinig postmarketOS though? I've been using (and contributing!) for over a year now. Enjoyed it so much I switched to alpine on the desktop.

@BoopyTheFox It's just a Linux arm computer (like a Raspberry Pi 2) with basic call and sms abilities. I like it that way, I don't need fancy entertainment device. You can browse the internet with it but Firefox is a bit slow with anything javascript heavy like YouTube or Soundcloud.

@nerdtronics I've always perceived these devices as a thing to hack around with, but honestly I do see the appeal in KISS as well.

@BoopyTheFox Yeah some people hate it because they are wayyy too dependent on their smartphones. I had a friend tell me he didn't find it appealing because he needs to be able to watch Netflix while hes in the shower lmao 🤦♂️
