I've been deep into #Mastodon for over 2 weeks now and ❤️ the community but can't help be concerned about how many resources a Mastodon server consumes. In a world where the 1.5C dream is long dead it would be great if the servers were more efficient and could effectively host more users and instances were #carbonneutral.#cop27

@svargas if you want to try hosting a more lightweight Fediverse server, you can set up a Pleroma instance instead. It doesn't require lots of resources. In fact, you can even set it up on a Raspberry Pi if you want to. It functions similarly to Mastodon and it can federate with other Mastodon instances. But it's not the same as Mastodon. It has its own features and issues.

@getimiskon I've very tempted to dust off a spare Rasperry Pi 😄 Do you know if you can follow hashtags in Pleroma?

@svargas they don't work in the same way as in Mastodon. You can see posts with a specific hashtag, but you can't pin it, like on Mastodon.

@svargas I think that the reason for that is the language used for the server which is Ruby.

@paspro @svargas its elixir you dumb niggerUnironically rope yourself, ruby is a shit language, elixir just makes it more usable i guess. i dont use elixr but hear good things about it. aslo pleroma uses PostgreSQL and not Elasticsearch i think...zinc search > Elasticsearch
