Anyone knows a good open source alternative for MAMP PRO on macOS?I could also just go with manual via brew but all-in-one seems easier :blobcatgiggle: #MAMP #macOS #M1

@stux I recently learned that PHP has a server built in and I love using it.

@stux Could I ask what you are looking for in an alternative - is it mainly the price that's an issue?

@stux For simple setups, I hand great experiences with PHP’s built-in server, or Symfony one if one need things like local HTTPS, with a sqlite database. Else, I don't know, sorry :)

@stux docker. To avoid a steap learning curve, I’d recommend Devilbox. It’s the worst possible name choice, but it’s awesome: http://devilbox.org/ If you need help, let me know. We can set it up in an hour.

@stux I tend to work on the basis there’s a VS Code extension for everything 😂. What are the killer features of MAMP that you think you’re actually paying for versus what you’d be able to get OpenSource?

@stux This any use?https://bitnami.com/stack/mampI have used a number of bitnami packages over the years - their internal setup is sometimes quirky, but genreally they seem very good.

@stux how about a framework with manjaro or arch installed? That’s enough for MAMP.

@stux I tried XAMPP but too complex for my needs. Then I took the path of homebrew and command line, I’m totally happy with it.

@stux I was using MAMP too years ago, then I found out that, surprisingly, doing it manually via brew is actually simpler. It also has a utility that checks which services are up, takes them up or down, etc

@stux I haven’t used a mamp/lamp stack in a long time. I just use docker-compose which lets me spin anything and just expose whatever ports my app needs. You can also employ docker volumes for data persistence.
