Moved to fosstodon from mastodon.social to try and keep the larger instances smaller.Hope there's no confusion!

@davidrevoy @doctormo Apparently the followers are retained by the posts and other data is not.

@doctormo @davidrevoy It is not too much of a problem but it would have been good to have to migrate posts too. May be it will be in future.

@raghukamath @davidrevoy @doctormo Not sure how a migrated post would be expressed, as the URL of a post is its identity and that's tightly tied to the domain name.

@clacke @davidrevoy @doctormo Would recreating the posts with metadata like date time etc be good. I know comments would be problematic. but even just new post would be good or a way to download a csv and post them. I am not a dev so I am just making wild guesses.

@raghukamath @davidrevoy @doctormo I see three ways of "importing" old posts:1. Just make sure they're all cached on the new server as if someone there had been following the original account this whole time.2. Boost them all on the new server.3. Create them all as if the new account had produced them in the first place. This creates minor but surmountable challenges if e.g. posts link to other posts. And of course they will be separate posts and won't have the interactions with the original posts, neither past nor future, carried over.

@clacke @davidrevoy @raghukamath A possible protocol addition might be to mark things as "moved", so even if you're seeing it in your stream your server has it's original reference and can decide if it's for display or not. That plus putting it in the past.

@doctormo When @sean uploaded old public domain movies to his instance for that kind of thing, he retrodated them with the original release date, which I thought was really cool. =) @davidrevoy @raghukamath
