Very good article explaining why the #fediverse is inefficient and why it does not matter: https://berk.es/2022/11/08/fediverse-inefficiencies/

@bortzmeyer very good article indeed. But then, we are still pondering why email evolved from decentralized to two companies handling 90% of users. The usual explanation is spam, making management too hard for small admins. We have to learn from that, do security and privacy analyses of mastodon, etc.

@bortzmeyer A long time back the catch phrase was "Small is Beautiful" (advocated by Gandhi). If the servers exchange a "TL, DR", instead of the full post, will it be more efficient - storage & bandwidth? Content moderation is done by the observing person. This is what we did EnThinnai. But then use case was restricted to strong conn only. May not be suitable for Mastodon use case.

@bortzmeyer It’s very efficient in the sense that it shows me far less of what I didn’t ask for. I like. ;^)

@bortzmeyer Hi, I know nothing about it, but would blockchain be less chatty and more efficient ?

@lm Just saying "blockchain" is not enough. Blockchains can be useful... or not. You should elaborate the idea before we could say it would be a good idea.
