@mia @wonderland die schönheit von matrix liegt vorallem an der tatsächlichen freiheit des dienstes. im zweifel kannst du dir deinen eigenen server aufbauen und bist autark. das geht bei telegram, discord und anderen diensten de facto nicht.

@smaecks@chaos.social @mia@lgbtqia.space @wonderland@plural.cafe Die Idee ist gut. Ich wünschte bloß das Protokoll, sowieo die Implementationen (Synapse, Dendrite etc.), wären deutlich besser. Matrix-Server zu betreiben macht nicht viel Spaß, XMPP macht genauso wenig Spaß (aber aus anderen Gründen).

@mia @wonderland angesichts fragwürdiger entscheidungen letzter jahre, u.a. das aussperren des irans seitens discord und ähnlichen vergehen kann man es sich eigentlich nicht leisten diese dienste mit einem account (und inherent durch die daten, die man darüber verschickt) zu unterstützen.

@mia @wonderland ja, element wird von institutionen unterstützt, die man nicht gut heißen muss, aber matrix kennt, im gegensatz zu jedem aktuellen messenger der gerade new hotness ist, clientfreiheit. man ist nicht gebunden an element.

for the "not open source" claim:https://www.world-today-news.com/signal-messenger-is-no-longer-open-source/This Article refers to a good German speaking source.Edit: it seams like Signal has since published the Server Code again.But who knows how long this will hold up.. and do you really want to move friends and family to a service that already gave a fuck on their promises?

@mia XMPP is better if you need something lightweight.Matrix can get huge, while XMPP is much simpler to run on even constrained systems (e.g. Raspberry Pi)

@fuesstest @mia Well true, but I have yet to find a way to run my own Matrix node on a 1CPU, 1GB RAM, 20GB SSD server.
