Every time I see a user on another instance say "but mods/admins shouldn't defederate, users should have to block hate themselves"I think to myself "Okay, start your own server so I can block it".My job, a huge part of my job, is making sure my users are safe from abuse and harassment and awful content. That often means dropping entire servers for lax/no moderation and, yes, a "free speech" stance.Defederate early, defederate often.

So far we haven't seen this but we keep running this 'lets start a cult' experiment with vulnerable people sooner or later we are going to.

@Moon to be complete: 6) mass splitting - instead of just individually members leaving, a significant portion of the instance leaving at oncewhich actually suggests that once we have groups working, we should also have 'group leaving' ie some kind of agreement within the group to all leave at once if everyone goes.

@jeffcliff we've seen this pattern before. The users will be cut off from all the interesting posts, get bored, and leave. Either leaving fedi altogether (assuming it's just dead) or to another server. What makes this one funnier, is that this instance requires a patreon subscription to get an account. Additionally there will soon not be a twitter to go back to for any poor saps that pay to have an account there.@Moon

@jeffcliff @aurynn i mean rage/love pretty much blocked ~99% or fedi, left wing, right wing and centre, might as well :blobderphappy: I'm not really taking a swing at any particular individual, i rlly do hate the game and not the players.Fedi really is huge culture shock to alotta people, esp newcommers... i remember how daunting it was when i was first here in late 2019. What i had realised is that, all the outcasts and extremists are here, of every kind. All those who had been booted of facebook/twitter ended up here and those who left voluntarily, such as myself, because they got sick of the culture and being trapped inside a panopticon. I never been on Twitter, i quit Facebook just before the Cambridge Analytica thing happened (although i did switch to reddit and discord, but got sick of em as well and quit).But yeah, there are really no political moderates on here, you got all the extremists from all sides of the political compass... i disagree with em all 🥴even though i may come of as a centrist who rlly hates the tho government and wants to grill for god's sake, i disagree with most of the centrists. I don't mean to be a preacher or sinner, all i can propose is know yourself and trust yourself.There are alotta grey areas on here, sometimes comunication with admins is needed, you do see quite a bit of leftist and rightist in-fighting.

@cee @aurynn ironically i joined the twitter and identica on the same day. Twitter was the more active of the two, and drew most of my attention until even after quitter.se came along. imho there are centrists here, but they aren't as loud as us extremists
