I don't even understand why people hate landlords. If you don't want to deal with a landlord, buy your own damn house. Your landlord handles things breaking, takes care of the yard and doesn't require you to stay more than a year. If you have a shitty landlord, move to another flat. I've had some bad ones and I just left (one I had to take to court to get the bond/deposit back).Most of the best landlords were owners who rented out some of their property .. and almost all of them put up the place I was in for sale within a year or two, because it's just that much work.... and even with all of that, yes .. the comparison of an instance admin to a landlord is low cognition insane non-sense. If you don't like your instance, literally buy a damn VM and start your own. Don't know how to do that? Well I guess you got some skills to learn ... ohhhh .. yea, that's why those people are fucking instance admins.sjw literally runs bae.st from a computer in his closet!

I remember a tenant which started to sabotage his apartment and my father asked me to fix the things they we breaking.So I did and chatted with them, explained and showed how this brand new apartment was composed of wattle and daub in the past and we lived in it for 10 years, and talked some more about the context we were currently having etc...They left shortly and nicely after that and didn't make more issues. People can't empathize when they portray you as some pig with a bag of money extorting them. Same goes for landlords seeing tenants as uncivilized baboons that destroys they property over time.

@Moon @djsumdog @pedroivo @fcktheworld587 occasionally you will find a good landlord though. my favorite kind is one who completely leaves you alone unless you contact them. so yea there are terrible landlords out there but sometimes people do want to rent property. there is a market need for this. for example if kids go away to college in a city for 4 years where maybe they don't want to buy property or can't afford to, shared housing makes that possible

I’ve had some bad landlords, but even the worst would fix things. If they don’t, you find a better place.I’ve never rented a place where the landlord didn’t handle the yard. I know some people who rent and have to mow their own laws, but you can specifically ask when looking.it’s still the person renting the place who pays for it (and more)Not by a long shot. The landlord needs to hit market rates to put someone in the place. If they can make enough to earn past the mortgage, that’s a win. But unexpected breakage cuts into a pretty thin margin. I had a friend whose tenants didn’t pay for like 4 months and they were having trouble making their loan payments and depleted a savings account.Sure some landlords may have a lot of money and it not affect them, but some are riding the margins to make some extra cash. You actually want more of the latter to help the little guys over the bigger/more evil property managers.I recently replaced my HVAC on my house. That’s $6,000. If I were renting, that would be the landlord’s responsibility and the cost would take a significant cut out of their rent to mortgage margin.

Everything should be spelled out in the lease. There can be variances in responsibilities. As far as instance admins being like landlords. As an instance owner myself: yes. I’m not hosting anyone else at this point but if I did, my rules are the damn rules. It’s my gear, my domain, I maintain the hardware and the software…and most admins don’t even charge rent, so what the hell does anyone expect?! That’s where the analogy fails. A better one is you are a guest in my house. As Oren ‘juice’ Jones said: “This is my world. You’re just a squirrel trying to get a nut”.

Try putting aside the money you'd have to pay in rent and see how fast you get to that $6,000. With current prices, where I live, that's less than a year. So unless you have $6,000 maintenance costs per year (I certainly don't), the cost is payed by the people who rent, not the landlord. (And no, loan payments aren't maintenance costs.)As far as the "little guys over the bigger/more evil property managers" goes, I understand, but I don't agree that these are the only two options. There are for examples coops who own property, with the "tenants" being member of the coop. Same advantages as renting, but no landlord who need profit margins.
