Need to find an MMO like TERA. WOW doesn't really do it for me. TERA was pretty good, I like the fantasy style.

It's not as action combat-y as TERA but GW2 still has a healthy playerbase and is fun, continues to get new content, and is a little more active in terms of control (has dodges, mounts with uniquely fun movement mechanics, etc.) and a bit more unique in terms of setting compared to super basic MMOs like WoW. I still come back to it pretty often. A big part of that is that it respects your time way more, doesn't try do hard to coerce you to play constantly, no subscription marrying you to it, and endgame is largely horizontal in progression so your work in getting built up is never reset.

The first two are actiony, can't remember which is the most monster hunter (closest I can think of to that style). PoE's changed a lot apparently it's more beginner friendly now, had a friend trying to get me back into it. I preferred modded diablo 2, but it's a dated game (or censored in the remake) and d3's too cartoony.What puts you off wow btw? That might help me think of something that bypasses the drawback.

WoW's artstyle just isn't for me, I think. It is a bit too "cartoony" as well. I don't know maybe I could try it again. I'm willing to try anything for the most part.

Same here, it's why I still play civilization 5 instead of 6 lol, I went to Lineage 2 when my gaming buddies started on wow. That might be an option too, I think they made it F2P/no subscription.Diablo 2's a lot more grimdark, hack and slash style. Not sure on the player count these days, but there's still probably a healthy amount. I did a single player run through a couple of years ago with a mod to change things up a bit.

Dauntless is fun, but it strikes me more as a Monster Hunter w/ training wheels than an MMO

Ff14 is always a solid choice. Lost Ark might be a choice you'd like. Oh and Black Desert.
