So my #Vtuber software #Vpuppr is having issues now that I'm on #AMD and #Wayland with texture flickering or zfighting. So until that's fixed (dev is aiming to have it fixed by v0.9.0) I'll have to use something else... And #VSeeFace keeps breaking in #Wine

@rogueren The same thing happened to me. The trick with #VSeeFace is you need to use Wine-GE and install all prereqs (namely Arial through Winetricks). Also on Wayland, you need to wait out a bit then it stabilizes, but KDE Wayland is still very subpar.

@rogueren Really? I was using it on my AMD RX 560 with Ubuntu 22.10 and wayland with no hiccups. Are you using the flatpak?

@unklebonehead yeah flatpak. I'm not the only one having the issue, and it seems to only be an issue on newer GPUs

@rogueren @unklebonehead Also can't speak about Vpuppr, but I'm using NVIDIA/GNOME (the literal worst) and it runs fine.

@trafotin @unklebonehead I'm swapping back to X11 for now. I think Wayland is close but just not quite there yet. Hopefully it'll go like pipewire where I hated it at first and then a year later I try it again and love it

@rogueren @trafotin @unklebonehead Not that I disagree with you, since as an OpenBSD user I despise Wayland, but can you give me your main reasons for disliking Wayland? And if you want, some reasons why you initially left X11.

@swindlesmccoop I only use wayland if the distr I an on at the time is using it. I'm not against it. I just need things like recording more than one window or camera in OBS Studio at a time.

@trafotin @rogueren Vpuppr is what we were talking about.

@swindlesmccoop @unklebonehead @rogueren Wayland needs to become an accepted future because for the first time in over a decade, we are so close to getting it. The issue is a sacrifice of usability, as KDE/GNOME had to strip out a lot to make it usable. Apple has similar problems, but at least they acknowledge X11 is fundamentally broken from a security standpoint.

@trafotin @unklebonehead I WANT to use Wayland, but if the things I use my PC for are gonna be a pain in the ass I can't use it

@trafotinWhat @rogueren said. If it won't work I will use something else. Security or not. It's very close but not for everything. I use it for the day job. Then switch it over to X11 for the fun stuff.@swindlesmccoop @rogueren

@unklebonehead @rogueren @swindlesmccoop The issue is primarily with KDE's implementation because it's different from the other 2 big ones, wlroots and GNOME. Right now, most people are optimizing for GNOME. We need to be focused on where the future really is, and I get it, Wayland is harder for developers and KDE is the one that's the farthest behind. @rogueren is experiencing the worst of it as a Pop! OS user (which skews progress backwards, but not too much) and a KDE user. I can say this as someone who has NVIDIA is locked to only GNOME Wayland on my primary machine. It only gets turned off to use Krita or DaVinci Resolve.

@trafotinThank you for mentioning Wine-GE, it completely solved my inabillity to use VSeeFace under Bottles!
