@stux The batteries in AirPods are not replaceable (by the user, anyway). So we are basically stuck. Well used Airpods may be usable for 3 - 5 years

@stux I've been in the support rep's shoes in almost this exact scenario but it was over the phone (a long time ago). I quoted the customer for repair which was over half the price of his laptop and he got upset."Do you think that's reasonable?""I don't set the repair prices, sorry""But do *you* think that's a reasonable charge?""Honestly? No but I also don't really think the sales prices are reasonable either so..."

@stux If your AirPods were less than 2 years old you can have them repaired for free through the store you bought them from. Afterwards the store is obliged to have them repaired at a reasonable price in line with value degradation over an acceptable life expectancy. I had my 1.5yr old AirPods repaired for free and my wife’s Watch got even replaced for free.

@stux I always had pleasant experiences with Apple support they exchanged my Air Pods Pro two times and recently they gave me a new iPad Pro 2020 because the screen Glass got loose where the Face ID Sensor is located.
