Pleroma based services aren't the most straightforward to roll out, but having a few bash scripts that do most of the work help.Due to some varying opinions on the development of Rebased and Soapbox (you can decide how you feel about it) - I've also copied and converted these scripts to Akkoma which others prefer:https://codeberg.org/pswilde/akkoma-podman

@realcaseyrollins @maxmustermann yeah, Rebased and Akkoma are at pretty similar states at the moment from what I can tell - vanilla Pleroma development seems to have stalled somewhat (unless I'm missing something) so these are the two to watch now.You can always use Soapbox FE on Akkoma if you want of course 😁

Akkoma does have one feature that looks pretty interesting and that's "bubbles" - from what I can tell, it allows you to choose instances "closely related" and effectively view their local timeline on your own instance - but I could be wrong.Other than that, both are looking pretty similar - in my opinion, Soapbox looks more professional, but that doesn't mean PleromaFE looks bad!There's a bit of a spite war going on that I don't really want to be part of - so right now I am just recommending both and people can decide for themselves. We should be better than that really.

@paul @alex @straw @maxmustermann I hate #PleromaFE's design language. Its layout isn't bad, and I love how customizable it is, but every time I take so much as look at it I get heavy nerd vibes. #PleromaFE seems to have been the same for years and could use a more UX-friendly overhaul IMHO

@paul @alex @maxmustermann @straw #Akkoma seems to be largely a spite project from what I've seen, bourne out of anger that #Pleroma is dead and #rebased is run by someone who isn't politically correct. If people wanna use it fine, but spite projects and missions tend to flame out eventually

Mostly how some changes have been made that seem to be motivated by spite against @alex with the intention of breaking support with #rebased. I’m not familiar with all the ins and outs though.

@admin @alex @straw @maxmustermann @realcaseyrollins I don't really want to get involved to be honest, but from my point of view any time I mention Soapbox or Rebased, I get a flurry of messages telling me I should chose differently or the software sucks because Alex made itI'd rather look at software objectively and for me Rebased and Soapbox look like a great starter for people to join the fediverse with... which is something we really should be encouraging above all else.

Its fine if you are using your instance like a verbatim twitter clone, but you do miss out. Here’s pleroma’s FE. I don’t know whats the problem with it is. Bloat is even nerdier than anything used on the fediverse for it is riced to heck.

@maxmustermann @casey-magazine @realcaseyrollins I would welcome a high-level overview of AP, in the usefully superficial way most people understand SMTP or HTTP. For example, it came to me as a surprise that only POST /inbox requests are push. Then, instances fetch the posts directly... or they do not, if the poster is banned. This is why relays cannot bypass fediblock. But I sometimes see QV posts even though QV blocks Mu at HTTP level with a 403. The reason is, I don't have any objections to QV content, they're just being dicks. This kind of decision-making is embedded into AP in a non-obvious way and everyone involved expects it to be understood intuitively.
