Slowly reclaiming my brain from COVID means I can play my rougelikes a bit more. Tonight I'm working on Lithium, a Dragonsworn Warlock, who's the first warlock I've gotten past level 20. Things are going slowly but well, with very good gear all around. FrogComPosband's Warlocks are a very fun hybrid class with a ton of variety. These dragonknights slowly morph from early game weak ranged zappers into dragon-mounted melee powerhouses leaping like FF2 Kain and hurling bolts of dragonfire and dragon ice.Very fun class and in a pinch you can summon a horde of dragons in addition to a mount, which makes the battlefield very chaotic in a fun way.

Right now Lithium is riding a totally badass "Doom Drake" which just spits fire like a machine gun whenever it gets close to things. This is really cool, because it can do so independently of my attacks.

@christoff It's FrogComPosband. You can try it (along with almost every angband variant and version ever) at http://angband.live

@endomain I need to get back on that. I used to play MUDs a lot, mainly Achaea.

@christoff Ah I played on Achaea for years. I even worked on the codebase briefly. But I got increasingly irritated with the pvp meta and the total lack of anything to do other than... like... I spent so much time fending off random sex rp propositions.

@endomain wow, this is awesome! I've never met anyone that played that game. You may have ran into myself on the game, but I barely did anything of substance but have been on it since around 2002ish.

@christoff Hmm. I was the last of the Shallamese Alchemists, and tried to make a PvP class out of it.In 2002 I was working for the Shallamese Monk guild, iirc Likan was the head of the guild and was my pvp trainer.

@endomain I never was on that side of the fence. I've mostly been Mhaldor, with times as Cyrene (in the beginning) and some time in Ashtan. I'm currently a rogue serpent without a home but have a good about of arties :D *sigh* I should make a return.I was Drauka, Drauko, Kzir, hrm, afraid to log in and check my characters. I returned a lot of toons, wasted a ton of credits "starting over" ever few years when I leave for a long period of time.I left the game before the shallam thing happened. and had to come back to re-learn it all. Loved Apostate class but the Mhaldor mandatory PVP fighting just sucked for me cause I got picked off and many days of XP in an hour or so.

@christoff Yeah part of the reasons I checked back in then left shortly after 2015 was this: the meta for PvP was "the people who were winning would keep winning and they had paid to win, so that was considered fair." Given many folks had been invested for 15 years on the site. Also they were weirdly furious at me for mentioning I had checked in a few changes to the codebase. Like, they were *so* angry at me and called me a liar and tried to get me kicked off the forums. Then I dug up even older forum correspondence about it and folks just kept telling me I wasn't welcome and I shouldn't have been allowed to play again in the first place. It was extremely weird.

@endomain yeah, I never got far in PvP, it felt like just not fun and a lot of coding to get in a good spot (I'm an expert coder, which is fine) just meh. I liked the RP and lore more, but most of the time I bashed in isolation because I just didn't seem to fit in well anywhere.
