On to-day's #DogWalk we met a woman with her Jack Russell Terrier. #Gruoch is usually fine with small dogs. This was one of those cordial meetings, although some rough play ensued. #Gruoch accidently knocked-over the wee dog, and then stood on it. The terrier screamed like a banshee. The look of horror on the woman's face couldn't have been worse had I drop-kicked her wee treasure. The woman accepted that it was an accident, but, said she was still worried about her dog being hurt.>>>#dogs

@fitheach Oh dear, we sometimes meet small dogs around here who scream horribly when they're not even touched! It can get v embarrassing too. (And Gruoch is a great name for a dog!)

@fitheach I can relate to that. My dog is very difficult to handle when meeting one of these little dogs especially when they seem angry but the owners of them are often difficult to handle, too 🥴

<<<I already prevent Gruoch meeting other big dogs, because she invariably wants to "have a go". I don't want to stop her from meeting all dogs. However, I need to be cautious about rough play with small dogs.

@Freyalyn I find that small-dog-syndrome is very true. They woof and snarl, even though they are only ¼ size.I sometimes wonder if I should have a dog called Patch, Spot or Rover, then I wouldn't have to explain the name. It's another talking point, I suppose.

@17christiana I better not handle the owners, that might get me into different trouble. 😉

@fitheach My previous-to-Arthur dog, in my avatar, was called Lunil. I had to explain that one many times. I suppose Elvish names are just as unfamiliar as old Celtic and Norse ones are to most people.

On a brighter note, I discovered that sitting outside of Costa's with Gruoch, is a great way to meet the opposite sex. I almost had a queue forming, they all wanted to give Gruoch head-pats.BTWThe coffee was OK, nothing special. I've got a theory about the popularity of such coffee places.#coffee #dogs

@fitheach @Freyalyn My mom's dog has that too. Spike (we named him after the bulldog from Tom & Jerry as a joke) will bark and snarl his head off at dogs 2-3x his size. He's only 25 lbs (11kg)!

@fitheach No, because he's almost entirely an inside dog. The spikes would tear things up and if we let him out without a leash, he'll immediately run to the neighbor's house @Freyalyn

@littlefish @WhiteSunday What people are buying is hot, milky drinks with a slight coffee flavour. I was at Costa's for quite a while. Almost everyone was buying cappuccino, latte or one of the specials, like the Toblerone coffee. The manager confirmed to me that very few people buy straight, black coffee (my tipple).

@trebach @fitheach It's odd, isn't it, how leather collars with studs or rivetty things used to be such a thing for dogs and now you rarely see them. Both of mine have patterned collars - peacock feathers for the poncy blond lurcher, and woven autumn leaves for the collie.

@Freyalyn @trebach Cartoon Spike has a collar with spikes.Working livestock protection dogs (like Akbashes) often have collars with large spikes. It prevents wolves from biting the dogs in the neck.
