Super sympathetic to the shock & grief felt by established mastodon.nz users at the Twitter exodus that's happened over the past week. These new noisy arrivals dominating the discourse, overloading hardware, ... not to mention the sheer amount of politics being tooted & shared.Makes me wonder... if the fediverse is a diverse collection of shared interests, why not a nzpol instance?

@JeffHowell tried it, so far don’t like it. Too stuffy, too slow… my iPhone hasn’t updated to allow for extra users in more than 30 hours now

@RobRNZ13Are you having trouble with the mastodon.nz instance being slow or the app on your iThing? People are reporting having better experiences with MetaText than using the branded Mastodon app on iThings.@JeffHowell

@JeffHowell I think that’s a very good idea. It has seemed clear to me over the past few months that we really could use more Ao/NZ spaces.The alternative is to get people to use #NZPol much like they would at bird-site. That way people who want it can find it easily, & people who don’t can choose to filter it out if they want to.

@strypey True, but isn’t it easier for people who want to follow the topic to search hashtags? I was trying to find an easy way in, as well as a way out. If you can do both with one, that would be great I have CW set to show automatically. I need to change that if we suddenly had a lot of political discussion here.Do hashtags work if they’re in a CW? Can you search them or filter for them?@JeffHowell @renamedpm

@RobRNZ13 @strypey @JeffHowell No issues with slowness for me (official mastodon app on Android 13). But I also only just got the notification about your question: I didn't see it at the time you posted it.Other notifications seem to be happening at the correct time. I do occasionally get notified over and over again about the same poll.

@renamedpmI think delivery of posts gets delayed at times, then catches up. Possible causes, affecting one or more instance; a lot of new following activity, heavy posting activity , software upgrades, underpowered servers with heaps of new accounts/ activity.@RobRNZ13 @JeffHowell
