@hacks4pancakes @da_667 I am gong to tell you (and 6m friends) a secret. I’ve been a CISO at $megacorp and my days are spent flattening the folds of my brain in 14 hours of Webexes every day. This has been the most exciting, most fun thing I’ve done it years.

@JefTek @Adman @hacks4pancakes @da_667 its the IKEA effect. Many of us are technologists and aren’t happy being “users” of someone else’s site if we can roll our own. Some others what the unilateral ability to block instances at will and not have to live under some other instance’s rules and moderator whims. Some thing it’s more privacy centric - i.e, my data’s are safe is they're on MY system

@jerry @hacks4pancakes Even still, this comes at great personal expense and hard work and I couldn't think of anyone better being at the helm. I'm very thankful. I log on here everyday and for once don't feel dread.It seems like an exaggeration, but twitter is a maw of negativity, and generally, I was miserable. But it was too valuable as a data source, so you know, dependence. This is rather nice. I just want it to stay that way.

@da_667 @jerry my mental health has suffered deeply due to Twitter. Some nights I don't sleep. I get angry for no reason after hours of abuse and hate. I feel obligated to log in every day and post though at the risk of my career, though. I really, really am so happy to be somewhere new and healthier with our friends.

@hacks4pancakes @da_667 I pop over there now and then because it’s the primary way people who have account problems contact me. But I inevitably end up on the search page where I’m presented with some controversial story, and of course, I go look at the comments. An hour later, I’m completely incensed by people’s behavior or convinced it’s a just a giant psyop wrapped in the flag of “increased engagement” to sow unrest and distrust

@jerry @hacks4pancakes @da_667 I have to admit, I have a hard time understanding this. Whenever Twitter annoyed me, I just quit looking at it and do something else? Possibly that's easier said than done but I also never cared about toxic comments. I've been on the Internet since it booted up and I simply got used to it?
