Hey #dnd and #ttrpg friends, can I solicit some advice? My son is 11 and wants to organise a D&D club. I don't really play so I'm wondering what advice you'd give him. Should he start with a specific prewritten adventure or even a simpler system? How many players would you recommend? What does each player need?He has the essentials kit and he's played a couple of games with his cousins and he's excited to organise one and is willing but a little nervous to DM.Please boost this one for me

@pidgeon_pete It was several centuries ago (how many, that's my AD&D 2E book) for me but I'd suggest two things.Pre-written campaigns, they used to be called modules. They do the hard work and get you used to the balance and feel of play.Small snippets/vignettes. Campaigns are hard but maybe write something small? Think of a short story length. You can also switch themes quicker. Try a tolkein ish dwarves under the mountains today, Dracula inspired tomorrow

@pidgeon_pete as for the size it should be a few, say fighter mage and cleric . Choose the simpler enemies because it's hard to balance (full on beholder or dragon can do a lot of nasty stuff to you) or track (ghosts or liches and ageing) because some enemies there's a lot of accounting. If they're good friends explain he's new, it's worthwhile getting DMs up to speed but it takes a while.

@smallsees I think he's actually super keen to create a world and a story and characters, but like most kids he's not always aware of how much time or effort that might take and what might make a better intro for the players
