Have you ever met a person whose personality was “cycling”? They love to talk about everything bikes, the places they cycled to, have an incredible amount of discipline to bike to work on icy roads amid frightening storms. These are the people most likely to survive the imminent technological collapse.

@brainworms@cdrom.tokyo The Dutch are used to cycling in every possible weather condition. I guess we're safe in the technological collapse then.

@SuperDicq @brainworms Makes me wonder how you deal with icy roads, because that's where I would prefer to go by foot.

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @brainworms@cdrom.tokyo We actually pour salt on the bike paths here.

@SuperDicq @brainworms Makes sense.Meanwhile here I've yet to see bike paths being consistently maintained, like most that I regularly use typically have a bunch of leaves on them for most of autumn/winter.That said only time where a icy area made me fall is at like 8am on a road used by cars (and right after a small roundabout so two-wheelers are doomed).

Unironically I did meet people like these. I don't live in the States, so they were kind of a myth to me, but a friend of my dad, his son and some other guys go cycling every week; and from what I could get the few times we've hanged out, that's all they talk about. But it's good for them, I'm glad they have fun.

@wandering_soul What surprises me of these convos is how little of it is redundant. I learn more about bikes every single time. Cheers to them 🚴

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @brainworms@cdrom.tokyo Alternatively, winter tires actually exist for bikes, they provide more grip specifically in such situations. They're not very expensive either.
