I like to follow tech people who tweet about building a FREE and OPEN web, that they're PRIVACY rights activists and don't like ADVERTISING on the web. :hand_clapping_fb: Then I open #Twitter to see that there's a handful of those folk who refuse to join #Mastodon because they think the decentralised aspect is too much of a hurdle. :confused_fb: And I'm left wondering if it's *really* because they don't want to lose the #Blue checkmark :verified: and their 22k followers.:heart_broken_fb:

@matt i've not deleted my Twitter account yet, because it has given me a lot of value in the past. I met friends there, found jobs, got valuable answers, book suggestions, blog posts and so forth.Mastodon, where I've been hanging out for some six years, also did that. But not as much yet as Twitter did. A tiny bit of me hopes twitter will turn to the good in a future. Before Mastodon i was active on friendica, diaspora. All gone. There's fear that mastodon will fade as well.

@berkes Oh, by no means am I suggesting people delete Twitter - just commenting on people's refusal to try Mastodon, yet open to criticising it :face_smiling_eyes_fb:

@matt it did make me remember I have an account after nearly three years (oops also hello!) but I do still find Mastodon a bit confusing :/ Not fussed about the decentralised thing per se, but I don't really know what/where to join.

@squid It's thrown you into a world of 2008 Twitter all over again - not many of your friends are here, you have to use hashtags to find content, some things are confusing and you need to learn how to use them. We're not used to that anymore - we just read what the algorithms suggest, based on what it knows we are interested in.

@matt The best ones are the ones that join just mastodon.social, look around for an hour, and are instant experts on the entirety of the fediverse. We both know someone that's spent the last several days on their soapbox over CWs on Twitter. I didn't engage and just muted them for a few days.

@matt @matt Another mentally retarded faggot bitching about twitter. Maybe you should transition next into a statistic.

@matt I had (“have,” I guess) 6,700 followers and am liking the vibe here a lot.
