@basadeskaiser They were trying to frame the white sailor with zero evidence.I remember a story about a black crew member who made some remarks and was seen by eyewitnesses near the location where the fire started. He was interrogated for a few days and then quietly discharged for mental health reasons. Not suspicious at all.

@Apollonian_Differential @Elfie @basadeskaiser I thought it was really funny how they were gloating that russkie readiness wasn’t as high as expected, where they’d reported $80% and only shown 60% in combat. They love calling it corruption, but that’s about the same rate as the F-35 program. There’s one unit flying them that only had 43% readiness for their F-35’s, but had routinely reported that it was about 75% because that was the goal.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Elfie @basadeskaiser the US defense industry is just riddled with companies being responsible for producing niche but important components for weapons systems either being dissolved, bought out by some other company, or just ceasing to exist all together. really worsens the supply and maintenance situation of the armed forces even further but i doubt many other navies are in a better position (except for maybe the french and chinese since both are heavily into exporting naval ships and their fleets are a bit newer on average compared to the US).

A kid joining up in years past probably had some experience fixing stuff at home, working on projects, taking care of his own car, the kind of things he could apply in a pinch to make something work if there’s no alternative in wartime. I’m sure that there’s always been some level of this inefficiency, but I can’t believe that it’s ever been this bad before. With how they’re increasingly technologizing everything, there’s this accelerating adding of complexity to the whole system. Say whatever you want about the innovations of WWII era ships, at least they were basically just engines and boilers of the same kind a young boy might have helped his dad work on at their farm or something.

China’s basically writing the book from scratch, and there’s a tremendous amount of institutional knowledge that must be learned or re-learned in order to achieve parity. I still wouldn’t expect too much from them, I think their command corps will be utterly worthless in making an effective force, I really don’t know if they can teach effective captains that will be able to think on their feet. It’s all hypothetical, I just know what I see firsthand in working with chinese kids, and they have a critical lack of independent command capability. If they can survive the early lessons and get some hardened commanders and good men out of the first year or two, they’ll make a leap in quality…..but they have to survive. Naval history is full of “wait…how did they lose? What the hell was that guy thinking?!?” moments.

My career is built on being a "young-buck" replacement for an old boomer that retired last year. I am not exaggerating when I say that the Navy is trying to keep the old shit working for another 50 years, partly because they can't get people competent enough to field new systems. Systems that were fielded in the 80s are planned to last over 50 more years, with the presumption that the next couple of generations will figure our shit out for us. For every year that goes by, another two years get added to that 50-year timer.The generation that fielded those systems in the 80s when they were in their 20s and 30s are retiring now, and it's a crisis. Those old farts aren't going to pass down any knowledge, and new hires are mystery meat retards that can't learn anything useful anyway because they won't hire enough competent Whites. They can't stop the stagnation, and have no recourse other than to helplessly try. And then assume that they can do it again in another 40 years. It's hopeless.If you don't die young, you will live to see the end of the GAE. I promise.

Yep those transmitters were heavy as hell.I got really good with a scope on diagnosing the APP and even the radar video box I can't remember the name of in the rack in front of SS3.One time we were taking off an aps-137 exciter, the one on the bottom, of a bird going to the boneyard. My worker was carrying it down and the ladder handrail broke, and that box fell allllllll the way down. Completely crunched in a corner. That one was fun to explain to maintenance.Loved working that airframe.Loved my sailors.Hated the faggy chiefs mess.
