Just in case there's any question about the future of independent podcasting, I just got this note:Via Podnews https://podnews.net: "The IAB Tech Lab is now requiring annual re-certification from podcast companies.The IAB says it "is updating its compliance program to require annual recertification".Pricing is $35,000 for IAB members; membership is a minimum of $10,000."More and more advertisers are expecting IAB certified numbers. Needless to say, TWiT is not a member.

@leo I’ll add my plug to join ClubTWiT. I subscribe to support the TWiT network, which has been a great resource for me for more years than I can count (started listening with SN episode 1). I used to pay with my attention to advertising on the shows. Now I pay with $$ directly.

@jeffjarvis Some advertisers require IAB certified numbers. We are getting by with IAB compliant numbers for now. Also many advertisers use the standard IAB contracts, which include things like 24-hour cancellation. We always modify those terms. IAB is not on the side of independent podcasters, just advertisers and big networks like WNYC.

@leo and this is something that advertisers are requiring? Seems odd they'd look at that rather than reach and reputation. Then again, from their perspective they're probably thinking this outsources the vetting process.In any case, sounds like a shakedown.

@leo This was an eye opener. I've been listening to TWiT since the beginning and other than supporting a few sponsors I've never contributed. I just signed up for Club TWiT and am now supporting other shows from other networks I enjoy through Patreon. Thanks for doing what you do.
