@freemo It’s Orwellian and Authortarian, exactly the thing most “progressives” say they hate. I don’t get this instance thing when the tools to block entire instances are in the app, (web browser). Haven’t checked to see if Fedilab has that option, but that’s the way it should be done. Let the user decide!

@Hyolobrika I dunno about your situation. All I know is I have never had a problem with them and I know the admin quite well (we have had beer and hung out before and plan to again, he lives near me)... in both cases I've never seen evenn a hint of an issue from him or his instance.

@marathon0 @freemo - If you’re trying to curate a safe space, you exactly don’t want the user to decide because in deciding they have to hit something (maybe many things) that makes them feel unsafe.The wisdom of increasing comfort rather than developing resilience is another matter, but it’s self-consistent.Also, the people I’ve talked to who are into this sort of thing mostly don’t, when pressed, have much of a problem with authoritarianism-used-for-good or oversight-used-for-good. Benevolent dictators can be awesome, if you can guarantee benevolence. There can be some nasty differences between theory and practice regarding resolving that conditional, however.

@ichoranIf they want a safe space what are they doing on social media? FFS start a forum on the web don’t join the Fedearated social web. It should mirror the world! It’s also culturally insensitive. What one finds abhorrent in the so called western world, might not be in other cultures. So, leave it tp the user. Overly sensitive people maybe shouldn’t be online.@freemo

@freemo @stux I came over with a bunch of gamedev friends, so I think I'll stay for now because I generally like the community and vibe here, but thanks for running an actual free-speech server. I think letting the user decide is the best way to run things. 👍 I think I'll probably spin my own gamedev/art focused one at some point, too. 💪
