When I look at a 'tooth' on my timeline, I don't see how many times it's been favourited or boosted -- unless I select the specific toot for a closer look. That's a poor design feature ... or is something wrong at my end?

@TetZoo No, it's deliberate design. (Which you may not agree with, but people definitely intended it to be this way.) The idea is to channel people away from favouring the posts that are already most favoured, and steer us towards evaluating them on their content. I am broadly in favour.

@TetZoo I've been told it's a deliberate design decision, on the basis the content of a conversation is what matters and not how many people have previously liked something. But yes, slightly maddening if you use it to keep a sense of what people who follow you like to read about.

@TetZoo this depends on if you are using a mobile app or the official website. If youre on mobile then the UI can vary in different ways.

@TetZoo Same for me. The replies icon has a little number next to it, but the boost and favourite icons do not. Actually, even the replies number seems limited to just '0', '1', or '1+'

@mike Hmm. If you're producing content that you want or need to be shared, you need an idea of what's popular and what's not .. so this is the opposite of useful in my opinion.

@TetZoo Hence my suggestion that the information ABOUT YOU should be made more conveniently available to you.But I do like the slight hiding of this information regarding other people's posts.

@TetZoo @mike Suggest you read this - it explains the differences between the platforms for some of the features: https://scott.mn/2022/10/29/twitter_features_mastodon_is_better_without/NB This isn't Twitter. It has been designed to not be Twitter. The reasons why should be obvious - a direct Twitter clone would be just as bad as Twitter. When you read around it, it's apparent that a lot of thought has been put into the design choices here; they aren't just random.

@TetZoo its a design choice to reduce toxicity and metric chasing

@TetZoo isn't that how Twitter used to be back in the day before they started going all-in on algorithms and ads? I remember it being about the reader wanting to save tweets for later reference rather than saying they liked them.
