I struggled with an Apache2 config and SSL LetsEncrypt certificate today. Website launch was not going well for me. Eventually got it sorted out with the help of the former SysAdmin. I keep learning and getting better, but it is challenging.

@retroedgetech I prefer using certbot to manage my letsencrypt cert, and nginx as my web server

@ShariVegas Agreed. Because that's the way they've always done it. I'm stepping into managing a group of servers where the last SysAdmin has been there for over two decades. There are a lot of things that have just been done that way for years and stayed the same. I have to stay with that until I really know what I am doing and then make good decisions for the good of the company in the long term, not just what I prefer.

@dem32 I was using certbot, it was the apache2 configuration that I had wrong. I'm learning and getting better. That is a mistake that I likely won't make again.

@10leej Agreed. This is for a company in which I am doing things "the way they've always been done" until I know more of what I'm doing so that I can make good decisions on what to change. I was using certbot, but the preference of the previous SysAdmin was to not allow certbot to edit the Apache configuration, but to handle that manually. However, the template that I thought was the correct one for the Apache2 configuration ended up being and outdated template. I'm learning and getting better. My preference would be to not use apache2 either. My son uses nginx a lot. It seems that there are a lot of great options for web servers. Caddy2 looks interesting, as it makes handling LetsEncrypt certs even easier and may be significantly better in performance.

@retroedgetech honestly nginx and apache2 are what's used in the enterprise and both of which have stellar documentation and community support.Caddy, lighthttpd, and such are great and all but are still young and not matured yet.
