@getimiskon I've been a Twitter user for 14 years. I think that's a pretty harsh reaction. You might be forgetting, among many other things, how valuable Twitter was to movements like Occupy.

@killyourfm yeah, I'm a bit too harsh, I agree. Personally I haven't used Twitter that much. Of course it has been influential for lots of people around the globe.But we should not forget that Twitter is a for-profit corporation. They decide what to do with their software. And that's what's the best part with Mastodon and any service that exists on Fediverse. It doesn't belong to anyone specifically (someone can only own their instances), but it also belongs to all of us. That's free (and open source) software, and what defines it.

I agree. The thing that makes the internet great is decentralization, something that has been lost as the internet traffic has been consolidated to a few websites.Also it's not just better only to society, but also to the environment itself, as a bunch of Fediverse instances doesn't necessarily require as many resources as the datacenters needed for the largest social media services. In fact, there are quite a few people that host a single-user instance by themselves.
