Reminder to *please* use content warnings on posts about the US election. I've seen some users just write "CW: Politics" or something at the top of their post, so this also serves as a reminder that mastodon has a wonderful content warning option you should use instead so users can more easily choose what to interact with. Here's a screenshot that shows where it is on the Tusky app, but you can find it in a similar place on most apps/browsers.

@_astronoMay I don't think this is a good idea. No speech policing, no guilt, no shaming. That way, no "OK Boomer" ;)

@amerika This is not speech policing, everyone is still welcome to post about politics or whatever they want.Using content warnings allows everyone to decide what they interact with and have more control over their timeline. If you don't mind seeing things that are typical behind content warnings here you can change your settings to always expand them.

@_astronoMay It's a bad sign for the state of democracy that people want CW for politics, imho. However, I do see why there is demand for such CWs. We should address the original problem and not shoot the messenger. In that sense: Please, use CWs and - if possible - also help to improve democracy.

@PatrikSchoenfeldt Content warning (or content labels as I saw someone call them, which I like) are not about trying to hide away unfavorable topics and pretend they don't exist, they're about letting every individual decide what they want to engage with and having more control over our feeds. These are standard on mastodon and it's important new users respect the rules of the road here, hence all the reminders.

@_astronoMay @PatrikSchoenfeldt In Activity Pub they are actually a "Summary". Mastodon just chose to call it CW. Personally I use them as subjects. That's also what Pleroma calls them and also closer to what they are imo. One advantage is that it doesn't feel as much as censoring, like people seem to have a problem with, but rather as an addition to the post. And it still makes sense as a CW as well.
