@tek hopefully that's the ticket! I know a lot of people have dabbled with mastadon in the past and then fell off of using it. I think if enough people migrate from birdsite, it will break into the public consciousness and be seen as a real competitor- and not just as a clone, but as competitor to all exploitative social media.

@Blakerboy777 Part of me hopes that happens. Part of my dreads it! But in any case, I think the kind of people I’d want to chat with online will see this as somewhere viable to hang out, even if it never becomes the hangout for *everyone*.

@tek agreed. We've gotten so used to tech companies wanting to have a monopoly that we forget it's kind of weird. Mastodon doesn't need to be for everyone, just will be very cool if it becomes a place most people have heard of.

@tek I don't actually think it was slow at all. Even when you went down temporarily for upgrades it was super smooth, I barely noticed it. Very well scaled :)
