People who came here from Twitter posting about admins being able to read DMs or worried the instance will close without notice are silly. Twitter has thousands of employees who had access to your account. At least here you can find the admin and easily share privacy violations with others. If your worried about the instance shutting down join one that's been around for awhile and has at least a few hundred uses. Chances are there staying.

@bacon my instance’s hosting company won’t let me see the raw files, so we may discover that most mastodon servers’ admin’s can’t actually read your private messages. At least mine can’t.

@fraize @bacon I theoretically could see my server occupants' DMs, but (aside from the fact I don't care or want to) doing so would be such a ballache that the thought of it makes me want to die.

@bloonface @bacon the great news is if you don't want your admins reading your DMs, and they refuse to adhere to such a promise, you can always move.

@bloonface @fraize @bacon much better to know who's reading your DMS than some anonymous Twitter employee
