One more thought before bed:Perhaps Twitter was meant to implode. Many described the place as a war zone or a cesspool. But will they be as drawn to Mastodon as they are to TikTok? Could it be that there was always a hunger to know the people behind the accounts and that the loneliness of the pandemic increased our need to relate and empathize? And can text alone actually address this hypothetical need? Putnam's BOWLING ALONE by way of COVID and the digital realm?

@edwardchampion Most of the folks in my Twitter neighborhood like to actually "talk" to each and share important ideas as well as silly thoughts. We became friends and rely on each other for support in a crazy world. That companionship and craziness ain't gonna come from TikTok. We've all been talking about it. We're suffering the probable loss of a community that flourished in that crazy soil. i think a lot of us hope to find it here, so forgive us if we cling to the comfort of the familiar.

@K8TDidToo Fair enough. There are always communities within any social media platform. Your mileage will vary, depending upon the type of person you are. I've found thar TikTok has been, by far, the best place for me. I have made friends and I am understood there in ways I never was on Twitter. Which is odd. Because I'm a words man first. Don't know if Mastodon represents a place where this can happen. But I'm trying it out!
