You should watch Gundam The Origin before or after ‘79, it’s Char’s origin story and it’s SUPER good. 79 can be a bit of a hard watch and it shows it’s age and the worst parts of that era of anime unless you aren’t already into Gundam.

@deVoid I like robots enough to get through anything. Mostly I’m more of a super robot guy but you really can’t sleep on the classics. As far as classics go, Gundam definitely registers.

@deVoid That’s the aspect that I can enjoy the most. If you like space operas, I recommend to you Space Battleship Yamato. I got into that by playing the Super Robot Wars series, most specifically Super Robot Wars V. Such an awesome game series, it’s a shame that 30 is going to be the one most know about because it’s the only one that got a worldwide global release. I bought V, X and T on Steam - love them.

I was interested in picking up a used PS4 and MBON because Crossbones looked like a fun suit to play in that game, but now I’ll just wait and see if now that there’s a new VS game out magic happens and a PC port of the old games exists (not optimistic)

Utterly faulty, completely disappointed. This is such an easy win for Namco Bandai, just port the console games over to PC. This is so simple. The only good Gundam game on PC is SD Gundam G Generations Cross Rays.

@Eschatology @deVoid You should check out Original Generations on ps2. Extremely good remake of the GBA Original Generation games, it got a fan translation a while ago, easy to emulate. The animation and music in that game is incredible.

There’s some slight character changes like the doctor in the original series actually just being a pervy veterinarian that bumblefucked his way into the Yamato but I think the changes are for the better. 2199 is kino

@DrRyanSkelton @deVoid @Eschatology if you want to watch the original then you've got two timelinesThe first two movie ones - the 1977 movie with the name Space Battleship Yamato (basically the 1974 series turned into a movie- the 1978 movie, a proper feature movie, quite beautiful but extremely final. Called Farewell to Space Battleship YamatoThe series and series movies- The 1974 series (has some extra stuff not in the movie and such)- The 1978 series an original series made after the 78 movie did really well (But it was too final) so it's basically same story but can continue- The 1979 telemovie The New Voyage- The 1980 movie Be Forever Yamato- The third series in 1983 (I think) basically a third series set after the others, generally called Season 3 or Yamato III- The 1983 movie Final Yamato which comes in two forms incuding a massively long oneand 24 fucking years later- The 2007 movie Yamato Resurrection, which is kinda, good and bad since it's got a new cast mostly being set decades later only for it's sequels to never happen so can just skip this one.

I think pretty much on like episode 2 or 3 they mention the Izumo plan and why a lot of izumo plan staff also worked on the Yamato project, so it’s not toooooo much of a spoiler but I don’t remember if in the original they hid that fact until later as I watched them side by side episode for episode.

But the idea of the ship being a colony one was actually taken from an original draft for the series where humanity died and Yamato was all of humanity left.
