Lots of people are asking me how it all works here.I’m really busy working on #GOTV items for Tuesday so it will be short for now. 1. Yes, communities/instances, whatever you wish to call them, are separately run. This is not a disadvantage. It’s an advantage. If one isn’t working well or doesn’t suit you, you can easily move. No one person lords over everyone. That’s what decentralization is all about. 2. Nobody is “verified” by some remote, non-transparent, rules-unknown body. Most well-operated instances have an anti-impersonation clause for real people. It works fine. This makes the platform more equal. I follow some people who prefer to use their real names. I follow people posting as cats. Goats. TV characters. Nobody is more important than another here.3. If you want people to be involved with your posts, be positively involved with theirs. Social media for most people I’ve encountered is just that: social. Boost other people’s content. It will come back to you.

I’m really grateful for all of the new followers and I look forward to getting to know people better as time goes by. I sincerely hope everyone who has joined up recently gives the platform a chance. It took me a good year to adjust. Give it time.Also remember a lot of regular users have been here for a number of years and are used to a quieter pace. It may take some time for them to all catch up.

@TonyStark Like Tony, three days before midterm elections, I'm busy with activities for them, but I wanted to add:We've had a number of people asking if they can join democracy.town because they are also interested in politics or like the superhero characters many of us have chosen. We are a small server and can't handle any more traffic. We're glad so many people are looking for non-corporate social media! You can interact with accounts on any instance. There will likely be other new political ones popping up too given the number of familiar names from politics I've seen in the past 48 hours. Someone will want their own instance and will welcome people to it. You'll find the right home for you. My friends and I tried out a few different instances before Tony started this one.

@GreenFire Instance administrators appreciate small donations to help keep their sites going. $8 is great, $5 if it's more comfortable. The people paying for the servers here aren't billionaires or millionaires. They're regular people with regular incomes.@SpiderMan @Graham62 @stux
