I wonder how the Twitrer blue shit will affect vtubers since they rely a lot on Twitter. Its not that $8/mo is a lot for most of them, if they really are willing to go through that. But it will completely break all interactivity between their fans since all those who are not willing to pay will be shadowed by those who pay.I really hope they explore other alternatives.

Like, come to think of it, a lot of youtubers and communities organize events on Twitter, and this is going to screw it all.At this point I can no longer consider Twitter social media. More like a P2W social media.

@enigmatico I'll admit that's a major reason for not nuking my birdsite account yet, but I also wonder if the bigger companies like Nijisanji and Hololive require a twitter account for their streamers. I feel bad for anyone who's career is highly twitter dependent at the moment.

@FuJoJo They probably do, idk. But right now, its their main way to communicate with their fans. For one-way communications like schedules and status reports then its still fine but for events like when they ask people to post memes or drawings or whatever, thats going to be a problem since the "whales" will have priority over those who are using it for free.And this affects youtubers and companies and a lot of communities as well. Im sure nobody thought about this.

@enigmatico it will suck for fans on twitter, but in a way it brings the experience closer to the superheat system in YT. I don't see how it might affect the talents, considering that most of them are not currently verified. Impersonations and scams might be an issue, but that's not something just particular to vtubers

@enigmatico Yeah but that was already a concern beforehand, getting verified on twitter is a massive pain.If it takes years for hololive members, imagine for any indie, vtubers or not as the same goes for artists.

@lanodan Thats not it.The deal is not just $8 for the checkmark (which in itself is already fucked up because it promotes impersonation and fake news). With those $8 per month you also get less ads, and more importantly, your tweets will show on top of those who dont pay.This is a big deal because in those contests and events that youtubers make, people who pay will have priority over people who doesnt.I dont need to explain to you why this is unfair.

@enigmatico Rules for verified already were unfair rules by definition, in fact one of the early ones was having spent thousands of dollars in ads.Here it's just being more explicit about the unfairness of it.

why would it do anything at all? Are people really going to stop watching and interacting with VTubers just because they won't have a little blue check by their name? They're still going to know the Vtuber's official Twitter name from Twitch or wherever they stream from .... or do you think Twitter is going to start prioritizing $8 users in the stream over free users?

ah ignore my other post .. I should have read on first ... it seems like the $8 process would be pretty straight forward though; right? They're doing it for revenue and to equalize the user base.I hate it because I'm guessing it would require ID verification of some type (and would probably not affect most countries right now since they'd have to roll that out slowly as they implement each country's ID process)I dunno, deleted my Twitter years ago, don't intend to go back or find out.
