Advice wanted: I currently run a #Plex server at home on an Intel Hades Canyon NUC (i7, 16GB RAM, pretty powerful). Only a few users, and almost always from within our home or me rocking PlexAmp while I'm on the road. Would it be overkill to also run a @nextcloud Hub on this machine?

@killyourfmProbably doesn't help much, but I'm running a plex server on a raspberry pi (with me being the only user), along with homeassistant, and I attempted to setup nextcloud but it was incredibly slow. So it technically worked, but not well@nextcloud

@mrpresidenttom @nextcloud WOW, it helps a little! I'm amazed that a Plex Server even runs on a Pi.

@killyourfm I think it would be ok. https://mastodon.xyz/@nextcloud doesn't need a super powerful machine, and I don't run Plex but I run a Jellyfin instance with way less resources than what you have so...Bakcups are your friend in case you mess up 🙊

@killyourfm @nextcloud My Nextcloud server is running on an ARM Cortex A9 with 2G of RAM.And while it is just me using it (real-time code, images, video (inc. from phone), docs backup) it never seems unresponsive, even via the web interface to my gazillion photos.Thinking you're probably fine :D

@killyourfm I'm running a pretty similar Plex server but in a NUC cluster. I've never needed to use nextcloud or any other hub to access my media. Plex just always works 🎊

@btkostner Oh yea, Plex is rock solid. I'm using it for both video and music streaming. The reason I'm thinking about Nextcloud is various docs, photos, and maybe some of the Groupware stuff.

@killyourfm @mrpresidenttom @nextcloud I'm doing the AIO droplet, so I couldn't really say. I did have to put it on a container with 3 or 4 gig. I think it's going to eat some disk space, too. I'm not up to secondary storage yet. 1st that and then try to roll my own.

@mrpresidenttom @killyourfm @nextcloud I do a similar thing, although I use Jellyfin on a Pi 4, and I stream 1080p Movies all the time. I also have Nextcloud and a whole bunch of other stuff running on there.Only me and my family are using the services, but performance is fine.Nextcloud could probably be faster, but them that's most likely the Pi. Most of my Nextcloud interactions run in the background, so it doesn't bother me.

@killyourfm @nextcloud I’ve got an old HP micro server with a retro fitted Xeon 8 core CPU with 16GB RAM. It’s running Plex, Radarr, Sonarr, plus a bunch of other containers (under Portainer). It’s all good. However, if you are transcoding a lot of stuff then it’s a different story as that is very cpu intensive depending on what transcoding hardware you have.

@rustyf @killyourfm @nextcloud I actually use Nextcloud the most for music streaming. It hooks up really well with Subsonic. I use it for docs and drive storage as well, which it works great for, but it's completely replaced Google Music for me, which makes it awesome in my book.

@jahruhn @mrpresidenttom @killyourfm it's possible, but for a good experience you'd want a 4gb ram version - and if you also have plex, well, maybe 8 is a better idea... Try the AIO, it's well pre-configured for good performance.

@geekwisdom @killyourfm It SHOULDâ„¢ work on a system with ~4gb using the AIO. If you do things manual (without docker) and configure it well with Redis and all that, 2gb should be sufficient, too, but it's a bit of tuning. Sadly there's quite some work between "it works" and "it's fast", the AIO should take care of that, though..

@dunkelstern @killyourfm @RyunoKi well if you have the sync client running & files get changed, there's a connection & file syncing. Browser open means connection + notifications. But it's not a TON of bandwidth for anything but file transfer or video/audio calls.
