Just putting this out here, and you're welcome to disagree: I don't want stats on #Mastodon. I don't want to see impressions and engagement rates here. I don't want to care how much "reach" I have. The most valuable analytics for me, in this space, are the conversations in my Mentions column.

@killyourfm Well, we're all confused.I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not at all sure that features should drive culture rather than the other way around. Err, maybe I do agree... OTOH, I'm kind of addicted to stats and often people don't obviously react to my stuff but I then find lots of people read it, so it would kind of nice to know.

@mkarliner oh I am completely on board with features not driving culture. Agreed. And I understand how compelling stats can be in the right scenarios. After all, I do community management and marketing for Thunderbird, and that's a daily reality. It's just been so refreshing to have this one little place carved out where i'm not worrying about that, and neither is anyone else. It sure makes a difference in the content.

@killyourfm I agree. I deal with all that stuff on a professional level on a daily basis so I literally have no interest in it in this place which I’m slowly turning into my private sm of choice. Analytics guiding choice of post/text/media is what led us into this mess (looks around at everything) in the first place.

@killyourfm Depending on the interface you use, you can turn a bunch of them off. @pinafore has a Wellness settings tab that's all about things like that. I think it was the first time I encountered "digital wellness" of that sort

@killyourfm 100% I've never been "successful" by social media measurements. I don't care and the idea of putting effort into improving my social media presence bores me beyond belief. I've abandoned every platform I've tried (except g+, rip).I just want to socialize with people with common interest and favorite pictures of their cats.
