@Loded-Diaper @EdBoatConnoisseur @Xeraser @jfarkas yeah, I always found that part of US culture very weird.I'm an Italian descendant from a part of Brazil where most of the Italian migrants went, and many people still speak Italian (actually it's a specific dialect that is pretty different from the Italian spoke in Rome, because the migrants came here before Italy unification, but still), and we still are very proud of our Italian cuisine (even if some stuff had to be adapted due to ingredient availability) and winemaking, to the point the gastronomy and wine are used as a means to attract tourists.My mom, for instance, only speaks Italian. She understands Portuguese just fine, but she will reply to you in Italian. I remember when I was with my ex-GF, she was from another part of the country, and I had to mediate the conversations between her and my mom to translate what my mom was saying. We have some programs in the local radio station that are in Italian, we have parts of the local newspaper in Italian, there are local authors publishing books in Italian, and that's not just in my city, but most of the neighbouring cities also do this, and the general consensus towards people from other parts of the country that go live there (it's a very rich region with lots of job opportunities and a general quality of life way higher than anywhere else in the country) is "adapt or leave".Heck, even for the newest generations, I have an 8 year old nephew, and he's learning Italian at school, because the mayor decided to implement it as an obligatory class in all municipal schools. And I'm pretty surprised to see that when I speak with him and his friends, they understand and are able to reply back, which means the classes aren't just for show.So that's a thing I never understood about the US: the shitlibs and jews keep yapping about how "there's no such a thing as a White race/White culture" and that Whites are actually split between lots of nationalities, each with their own distinct culture. However, the US culture climate doesn't allow for those different national identities to flourish, having, as you said, the effect of turining all European heritage into an amorphous blob of "Whiteness".And the fact migrants are ruining the original European countries also doesn't help a bit.

As I said, in my hometown it's pretty common for people to routinely use it, even if some words. Going to the bakery and asking for pan, formaggio i salame instead of the Portuguese words for it, for instance. That's how you foster culture, and why Latinos tend to keep their own culture in the US: their communities are tighter, they speak Spanish routinely between them, they keep their holidays and traditions, etc. When you lose this part, you lose everything.
