#Linux I have a server with a SAS1078 SAS/SATA controller which crashes when fetching VPD page #0x89 (ATA Information),maybe because this is the only VPD page where the complete data is >512 bytes? Don't know, whatever the reason,it crashes the SAS controller.Previous to Kernel 5.19 or so, the SAS controller was successfully restarted, and as this only happenes at boot,it only incured a penalty of about 10s/drive, which, while annoying, was still working for me.https://gist.github.com/vogelchr/3d328898cc64c4a5159a1e4edff3a8f3

@vogelchr Given how common those are that's surprising - have you tried a bisect?

@penguin42 I don't think it's worth the effort of finding out where the restart (which incorrectly didn't re-issue the firmware-breaking command) became less reliable when the actual root-cause is clear, and can be fixed.I may have to try harder get the firmware upgraded to a non-broken version, the dell release notes seem to indicate that this exact issue is fixed.(I didn't find this particular dell upgrade until I had understood the problem, and the right search terms to find it :) ).
