One thing I like about here a lot - the federation stuff works transparency. E.g. here's something I just posted, most of the people liking aren't on my Mastodon instance (or even need to be using Mastodon).

For those who don't know the protocol is open (aka the Fediverse), so the use cases are extremely diverse. E.g. most instances aren't even Mastodon. The only real infrastructure concentration is most servers are in France and Germany - which I suspect comes to privacy concerns.
