       @andreas @azrez Still better to say pleroma imo. Most different fedis have their own focus, their own appeal, something to put them above the rest in their category. For example, misskey is good if you hate readability and like cat ears. Pleroma, specifically, excels at being "mastodon but not retarded".

       @deidyomega Yeah it ultimately refers to the same network so its not an issue to the informed user. The reason I (and others) dislike referring to the whole network as Mastodon or the "Mastodon Network" is because it can give the impression to newcomers that Mastodon is all there is. ead to them missing the other cool stuff on the network. (peertube, funkwhale,  misskey, pleroma, etc.) It can also give the impression that Mastodon is the foundation of the network which imo doesn't fit with the idea of activitypub being a protocol that permits multiple different but valid implementations.

       @azrez Sure, but that comes in time.  For 95% of the users, mastodon is a website they go to, to post silly cat images.  We both know, none of what I just said is correct, but again, I dont think they are hurting anyone by not understanding activitypub.  Hell, I'm a software engineer and I dont *really* understand how everything is syndicating.

       @deidyomega I concede to that, I don't really think it's a huge crisis that needs to be instantly corrected every time it comes out of a person's mouth, it's just a bit off-putting as someone who has used fediverse software for years. There's some other stuff about how Eugen markets Mastodon, and how some people feel he is trying to deceive people into believing that Mastodon IS the fediverse rather than a part of it, and with people mass migrating to Mastodon  instances from twitter and referring to the whole network as Mastodon, it brings those bad feelings back up in a lot of people. That's part of why so many people are getting a bit anal about it.
