       In light of the general state of the typical progressive mind these days, I can't say I am too surprised over the sheer ANGST around Twitter blue check marks. They've somehow confused icons with legitimacy, accomplishment and activism -- all at once.

       @RoboftheVolcano Accurate.  Perhaps though also just vain, weak and insecure.  Easily swayed, easily controlled -- i.e. brainwashed to be subordinate to a social collectivity such as a state, a nation, a race, or a social class.
