It’s really sad for people who lost their trusted online home in #Twitter with the Mail takeover. He really shows who he is now by firing half the staff blindly, he simply doesn’t care about the human aspect.Try to see it positive since now you have discovered a place that’s as much as fun and probably even more! We may not have the numbers but we make up for that by kindness and interaction with each other🥰♥️A social network is not defined by its numbers but by its community :blobcathug:

@stux I have a sm0l idea 🙈 Maybe in the future we can create the opportunity to hide our following-numbers on our server? Of course only for those, who wants (like a choice)? I just can't stop thinking about that concurrency-thing in Social Media, the "big accounts" and how they become important players. And this can be used for the best but also for the worst reasons (this hopefully not here in the fediverse). All in all personally I'd love to hide it, if this would be possible :blobcatlost:

@stux I'm only here because I read r/Twitter on #Reddit and it seems that every account can get banned at any time without reason or a way to get it back. Even accounts over a decade old.This is due to some algorithms there and a very small staff handling the appeals.As #ElonMusk is a very big fan of AI and automation this will probably get much worse.I don't care if I have to ignore Volkswagen or vitamin pill ads.

@stux my interactions on twitter were at least 25% likely to involve some form of trolling or hatred. I haven't had ANY interactions of that nature on Mastodon! Of course I'm sure I'll eventually run into a problematic individual but the huge reduction in hateful content has done wonders for me so far.

@stux I left Twitter mainly to escape all of the negativity that seems to permeate the entire platform. But the last straw was when he flat out lied to his employees about the layoffs. Working with less people doesn’t usually mean a better service. It usually leaves employees trying to do multiple jobs in an ever increasing toxic environment. #TwitterMigration

@stux The one that surprised me was the idea he may have ditched people based on how much code they wrote, and ditched the ones the wrote the least. Hence, writing a small amount of code is "hard", and almost always is in areas that are hard to do. He has no clue does he. One job I did was code 10x most people on the team, and deleted old code twice what I created, so net very negative. I'd never survive Musk.

@stux I have had a terrible time even get in here. It would not accept my email. So I had to use gmail, which I never use. Then I finally got in and my server disappeared. I could not sign in. I tried to reset password, nothing. I ended up finding some tiny print & got in but lost my user name because it would not let move one. I was on a waiting list and now I'm here. I don't think many twitter users I know will be able to deal with this.

If you purchase a platform for $44B and have a debt service of $1B per year - you best figure out how to become profitable. quick. Outline the mission and shed the expenses required to get the ship headed in the right direction. (Cutting jobs is the collateral damage that is part of the process - despite it being the most difficult part of the process).

So far I refuse to think he’s pure evil or just thinking about his income, because he knows his actions are costing him millions of dollars. There’s something we’re not seeing yet. However, I do agree, community is the key for a social network.

@stux Musk blind firing of staff is one of the top 3 reasons, I left Twitter. Calling hate speech free speech and no longer moderating it is another reason and I note Musk is now agreeing with those who are calling for advertisers who have paused their advertising on twitter, being made to account for their 'actions'. I am here for kindness too.

@stux I have an order of magnitude less followers here, but get 2x the amount of engagement on my art posts here vs Twitter. Seems like it's a lot easier for folks the find the content they want on Mastodon, even across instances!

@stuxI'm only starting to realise now how negative Twitter had been for me recently.I had started unfollowing all news channels because the replies I was seeing were almost 100% right-wing conspiracy theories.This was before 'Himself" took over.It definitely feels like Old Twitter over here and that's a good thing!

@stux I think Elon always showed who he was — I hated him from the start. As a Miley Cyrus fan it pains me that she rapped about buying his cars on Cattitude. But if I’m being honest, Twitter hasn’t been the same since internet got tarnished with so much misinformation. Just this week, after Brazilian elections came to an end, I have been seeing so many unnecessary things from people contesting the elections to others endorsing fascist rhetorics against the region I live in. I’m so overwhelmed with unwanted commentary. Maybe being here means I will have a break from all that’s bad.

@stux It is sad to see that Twitter has become a place of hostility, even way before the takeover by Elon Musk. But I am more than convinced that we all here can build something great in the foreseeable future, and I definitely subscribe to the user base here at @Mastodon, regardless of its size. We have lost a bird but we gained a mammoth in the process.
