@Arcana I have no problem with longtime mastodon users being annoyed right now. I have no problem if people want to figure out if there are solutions. Comment all you want. But if you choose to insult people, I don't know why you wouldn't expect people to be offended and speak up. The implication that every new user is here to avoid musk is a drastic oversimplification. Applying the "ex" analogy to everyone who migrates from Twitter... What do you expect a person to think when they read that?

@Arcana How is that actually relevant to the discussion? How is not being aware that you're on Akkoma actually disruptive to your community? Your post was shared to my instance; is it not appropriate for me to respond? My lack of understanding may be massive, but it's far from complete, though I'm starting to understand you may not have any interest in nuance.

@keithjones @Arcana It's noise. People treat the Fediverse like Twitter except le hecking based, instead of a diverse place with many different people and, importantly, different worldviews. Everything is black and white to Twitter people when in reality the Fediverse is a much more complicated and intricate place. I think this is generally a problem with middle class white people, they want to put simple labels and categories on things and not think too hard about them. Twitter users calling the Fediverse "Mastodon" really reflects this. They can't accept that an instance like mastodon.social can exist at the same time as something like, say, disqordia.space, or freespeechextremist.com. They can't accept that things operate differently in different parts. They can't accept that Mastodon isn't the center of the universe like Twitter is.Recently I posted a goatse marked as NSFW in a large thread. The response was interesting. Some people did what they should've and blocked or muted me. Others complained and whined because I posted "sexual imagery" or something along those lines. They expected some large authority figure to fix something un-Twitter-like for them. This is a really good example of what I'm talking about. They clearly have not even attempted to learn what the customs are here and how to handle that. They clearly do not understand the dynamics and customs with inter-instance moderation. There's a massive and complicated history to this place. Gab used to be here for p@freespeechextremist.com's sake. We bullied the owner into leaving. I think it's in the bloodstream of people here to reject corporate and mainstream influence, and I have zero issues with that. Every time it happens it has been toxic as shit, and this time is no exception.People want Twitter when this isn't Twitter. The people who exist here came because of how toxic and awful sited like Twitter is, and people intruding and trying to treat this place as Twitter is completely disrespectful to what people have built. Hell, I see a LOT of people constantly crossposting things from Twitter. To a vast majority of existing users that's a taboo, and a grounds for being blocked.Am I saying you're like this? No. But the kinds of people who say that are like this. I'd advise lurking on a smaller instance before participating.
