journa.host is an instance dedicated to journalists, its ToS ( https://journa.host/about/more ) does not regulate common harmful behaviour associated with journalism on social media (e.g. including posts and screenshots in articles without consent), and if notable mainstream journalists establish themselves here, they are likely to accrue large follower counts, another potential risk factor.#fediblock

@pixelcode@social.tchncs.de the idea that something happening "in public" entitles you to some sort of natural right to massively increase its visibility to the detriment of the people involved to drive advertising revenue for a publication is a very strange one to me.If people do not want their posts to federate to people who may do this, this is a choice they can make.

@evelyn It's called press freedom. That's what entitles journalists to report on public affairs. Defederating from a whole server dedicated to journalism would be a very poor choice, as it would only abet the anti-journalistic movement.

@berkes@bitcoinhackers.org How is this censorship? Mainstream journalists present serious safety concerns on social media which are difficult to control. I have written nothing here which is untrue, administrators will make their own decisions, as they are entrusted by their users to do, and thus sustaining the freedom of association which is the fundamental freedom of fediverse.

@holger@chaos.social I've talked to people who share my concerns about some modern journalistic practices around social media, and the risk this would represent to fediverse users, I believe that the existence of an instance dedicated to this is therefore of concern.

I'm not going to tag this post, but I think it's also worth considering that the admin is, to put it bluntly, highly incompetent. never mind the ToS:- he approved several obvious troll accounts yesterday which then posted various nazi stuff (the instance has manual approval and the rules state that only professional journalists are permitted to join, one account did not look like a real journalist, another was impersonating a particular american right-wing journalist who's apparently something of a laughing stock among the US right). They were eventually banned after several hours, the admin was active while those users were and apparently didn't notice for quite some time.- he seems to think that limiting is the same as defederating, and he hasn't fully defederated from any instance, even those which spent a lot of time harassing his users ( https://journa.host/about/more , https://journa.host/@adamdavidson/109297137123981377 )- he is posting screenshots which appear to show the contents of remote reports against his users ( https://journa.host/@adamdavidson/109297406639386972 )
