There are a few servers that are solely devoted to shitposting (like shitpost.host) and to ugly conspiracy theories. I'm inclined to block them on journa.host, but am not sure it's the right thing to do, since we are, actually, journalists who need to know what's going on. Any thoughts? advice?

Users should be in control and have to decide for themselves what they want to see by following and blocking accounts. This is not the admin's job.2. I never defederate from a whole server, I only ban specific users. Servers on which 100% of its users are bad actors do basically not exist and. I don't want to unfairly treat a whole group of people simply because their server also hosts some bad actors.3. Users that post hate and racism I force unlist/force nsfwtag them so they do not appear on the global timeline where people can get offended by it, but it will still allow your users to follow them if they so wish to engage with these people. Same applies to bots and people who post excessive amounts of pornography.

@adamdavidson I typically think it's best to leave it to users to do for themselves. At the server level it can be a problem for users who actually do want to interact with some users.I don't know about the mastodon admins but the pleroma admin panel lets me deactivate single problem users where necessary, which is handy when a user is an obvious specific risk. I use it for paedophiles to mitigate the potential that they mightpost CSAM.
