If you want to know how the Fediverse is worse than Twitter I woke up one day a couple years ago to find my account was deleted off of bsd.network and my bikeshed instance blocked/muted from there too so I literally lost all contact with a bunch of BSD developer peers unless I contacted them on TwitterI've still never been given an explanation. I very politely emailed the admins kindly asking for details and they refused to give any explanation.I was hoping to speak with them in person at vBSDCon (of which I was the person responsible for managing -- with help from Dan Langille, who couldn't run it legally due to his immigration status) but they cancelled their attendanceI'm still in the dark and it's bothered me for yearsIf you're not careful you can be blacklisted from your own friends and peers and have zero recourse

It appears if they have already followed me pre-ban they can see my posts. Most had followed me on bsd.network not bikeshed so I just disappeared, so very few can see me

@feld Wow, I missed that story.I also signed up there a long time ago (2019), then stopped posting pretty quickly because the instance just kept falling over and performed really badly (I just logged back in for the first time in 1.5 years and it still performs terribly, but apparently it was also just restarted after an update, so YMMV ...)And then every time I felt like looking back in, the local timeline was just full of, how to put this, let's call it code-of-conduct meta content that just made me slowly walk backwards to the login screen, hit the logout button and breathe a sigh of relief.I guess a corollary to the danger you described is that somebody with an agenda that has INCLUSIVITY written on the banner but in actuality harbors censorious intent can turn themselves into a bad steward for a community quite easily - and the only way to fight that is through schism and upheaval, which in turn weakens the community as a whole.
