Anyone know how it's possible for my browser to display an image or playback audio for which the server tells me 403 Forbidden when I go to download it?

@friend the server refuses to serve via http in that case. Other protocols are not affected. so it is served using something else probably.

@hil I'm like 99.9% sure that this one is being served via HTTP: http://ccmixter.org/files/Robbero/59698But I just tried downloading that one from a different device and it worked, so maybe it is some local problem after all. I did try via a different browser before and that didn't work either...

@hil It just makes no sense to me. Like, if it's not a bug in the browser, how in the world do my browsers download it for playback, but can't download it otherwise...

@friend @hil How are you trying to download it? Just context -> save as?Usually in this case it's a referer [sic] header or something that gets included when embedding it in the page but not when opening it directly. If your browser has a traffic monitor (ff, chrome and all their derivatives do) use that and have a look at what's different in each case.

@Zergling_man @friend Yah, the stream worked fine and the direct DL was blocked for whatever reason it seems. Browser agent, device, who knows.... ^^

@hil @friend Yeah if you just mimic the request when it streams you should be able to fool the server easily enough.

@Zergling_man @friend Try to fool people instead of programs. Way more fun. :)

@hil @friend :^)Software's pretty dumb though, so fooling it is generally easy.
