       A short thread and a poll: Should I renew my @IAPP membership? I've been frustrated with the IAPP for some time now. Between lackluster utility, to their recent position deciding to host PSR in Texas (post-Dobbs), putting reproductive folks in serious danger, and what I see as a monopolist position, I'm debating whether to renew or not.

       Obviously, there's some utility. The CIPP-E/US designations carry weight and still mean something in the industry (though I don't really include them in my bio anymore). It's helpful for clients and bids. But at the same time, I'm established enough in my career that I don't _need_ the designations really. And knowing that they're a multi-million dollar organization that doesn't listen to their more impacted constituents really doesn't sit well with me.

       By paying them another $275 for the privilege of maintaining my certification and access to their publications, it also feels like I'm supporting them politically. And that really doesn't sit well. So a question to #privacy and #dataprotection folks: Where are you on the debate? Have you renewed your membership? Should I?
