@selea It's basically Debian, but coated in, well, you know 😄 I find it works well for certain use cases and users, but things like containers, not so much.

@selea what do ya'll think of pop!_os? I traditionally run mx linux as my dd and avoid ubuntu forks, but I had to reload pop for a bios update (some reason hp decided it's cool to not give you the option to flash from usb). I stuck with pop to give it a real chance, and so far it's pretty slick

@overpear It is fine actually, I recommend it for people that wants to have a good out of the box experience.Ubuntu for desktop and Fedora are good choices too.I used :popos: for 2-3 years, after have been using :debian: .Now I use :fedora: , and that one has been the most stable so far on my laptop.

@JSkier But somehow, Debians package-maintainers actually seems to put in great thought it how they package everything.Compare that to ubuntu, that ships broken packages - and thanks to their policy, I either have to backport or wait for next version.

@selea@JSkierI stopping using Ubuntu shortly after I botched the upgrade from 18 to 20 LTS, packages were stuck at 18 so when I needed updates I would uninstall those packages from apt to get them from a distro independent package manager like #flatpak or #guix, eventually I tried to install #debian but failed because of the lack of proprietary drivers, so then I was like hey, why not try out that meme distro #nixos?

@selea I have mixed emotions about glibc: GNU grep is really an awful lot faster than Alpine’s / busybox’s grep, which is important for me because I use it intensively for a dictionary interface.
