I can't believe I'm voting on a fake voting machine in Jersey City, NJ. I was surprised when it first happened, and I learned that most of the state is like this:An untrained poll worker accepts your check-in credentials, and pushes a button on a giant rubber membrane button grid covered loosely with a ballot. You push buttons, and magic happens. You may have voted. There is no record of it.

@progo Last year I LMFAO in my polling center, when I realized they had switched TO Dominion last year.You may remember Gov Murphy won a squeaker.Banning these machines are very important to make democracy more trust worthy.

@Sir_chasm use all the computers you want. I don't care. If there isn't a printed record touched or at least seen by the voter that is the point of truth for a vote, and stored in a warehouse for 8 years, it is a fake election.You know the ipad worked right or didn't if it prints out a paper record and you've seen it.

@progo Nah. I don't trust it. There's almost no way to verify. I will not be present when my vote is audited. I liked cold steel and physical analog hardware, done in small community centers where relationships mostly transcend politics. I don't like massive voting sites where no one is familiar and faces all just blend in.

@progo voting on machines is horrible but the poll workers are trained. I know poll workers in NJ and they have training.

@Therealdcgirl maybe so, but the two that were sitting at the table when I went through in 2020 were not keeping track of steps in the workflow and despite not being crushed by a queue the one pushing the button to activate the alleged voting machine did not have much of a clue exactly which voter she was activating it for, nor whether or not they in fact had check-in credentials.

@Therealdcgirl I remember what bothered me specifically now.I checked in. I was given a ticket (which vaguely proved my credentials as a voter). I had to give the ticket to A at one end of a table next to the voting machine. Without having a clear view of who gave a ticket to A, B at the other end of the table was blindly activating the voting machine for each voter.Go in during a crowded time, and you easily could have voted at least twice if you wanted to.

@progo we have the person check you in give you a ticket. You give that ticket to a different to get a ballot. The person handing you the ballot doesn't know who you are or anything about you. I like that and I believe it is purposeful. I don't know how you can get more than one vote in our setup. We always have the same number of people checked in, as ballots handed out and as ballots scanned. There are different poll workers doing each step to avoid accusations of collision with a voter.
